The Garden Fresh Market, located in Rockland County in Spring Valley, will have its soft opening on Wednesday, Oct. 23, and its grand opening on Saturday, Oct. 26, said owner Wilson Bermeo of New City.
This will be the fourth supermarket for Bermeo, who immigrated from Ecuador in 1995 to live the American Dream.
"You work all the time, every day, and you can have that dream," Bermeo said with a laugh.
And busy he is. He said he also owns the Nyack Fresh Market, Huerto del Eden in Spring Valley, Spring Valley Supermarket, D & K Produce in Spring Valley, and the Mount Ivy Diner in Pomona.
The new market, which took over an old CVS store, will offer everything a regular market offers, emphasizing fresh meats, produce, pantry items, bread, and sweets. It will also offer items from Haiti, Africa, and Spanish goods.
Bermeo said he is most proud of the 200 employees he can employ locally, 60 of whom will be at the new store.
"It's exciting to be so busy and to help the community with its needs," Bermeo said.
The supermarket is open 24/7 at 274 Old Nyack Turnpike, Spring Valley. For information, call 845-290-5888.
The grand opening will begin at 1 p.m., Oct. 26, with free prize giveaways.
Bermeo hopes to open additional markets in the future.
